Discovering the Hidden Gifts of Alzheimer's

A Beautiful Song

   Ken's Music

The song you hear on this page is one man's personal response to Alzheimer's.  The evening I delivered my message at the Candlelight Vigil in Washington, D.C.,  I was overwhelmed with emotion and memories.  As I lit a candle for Patrick and my father, the notes of a single guitar began to play.  And then, quietly, gently, a soothing voice filled the night.  The beautiful song was called The Long Goodbye.   The composer and singer was Ken Johnson.

This incredible man wrote this song as a tribute to Nancy and Ronald Reagan as well as to all those who have embarked on the long journey into Alzheimer’s.  His song brought tears to my eyes and to all those present.  Its words and meaning touched my heart.  Imagine my joy when, on the last day of the Forum, Ken came up to me and handed me a gift—the beautiful CD of his music.  I knew immediately that somehow his music, his singing, would be a part of this website.
