The Face Of Alzheimer's

Michele Muir is the photographer who took the author-pictures you see on this website and for the book Released to the Angels.  In addition to being a talented and creative photographer, Michele works as Communications & Public Affairs Manager for the Alzheimer's Association, Hudson Valley/Rockland/Westchester, NY chapter.

I first met her when I went to Albany, New York with others to speak with representatives of the New York State Legislature.  Her warmth and determined effort in speaking on behalf of all health caregivers and their needs was something I admired.  I was immediately drawn to her positive personality and quick sense of humor.

Since then, I have come to know what a wonderful person Michele is.  Her own father died with Alzheimer's and she knows first-hand the awful power of this disease.  She has chosen to react in a unique, personal way.  Through her photographic lens, Michele captures the face of Alzheimer's.  What follows are some beautiful and touching examples of her work—photographs that capture both the sadness of loss and the strength of spirit in lives touched by Alzheimer's.
